Buildbase Suzuki heads to Cadwell Park this weekend for the eighth round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship, with Richard Cooper looking to return to winning ways in the National Superstock 1000 Championship, while Bradley Ray and Luke Stapleford are aiming to build on the progress made with the setup of their GSX-R1000R superbikes in recent rounds and come away with improved results.
Buildbase Suzuki and the GSX-R has form at Cadwell Park: in 2018 it was quickest in qualifying for both the superbike and superstock classes, and was on the podium in all three races.
This weekend Cooper is looking to return to the podium after missing out at Thruxton, the first time this year he failed to finish in the top-three. He currently heads the National Superstock 1000 Championship standings by 30.5 points. In the superbike class finding the ideal setup for Ray and Stapleford this year has hampered results, but steady progress has been ongoing and is visible with improving lap times.
Bradley Ray, “I’m looking forward to getting back on my bike again and having a go this weekend. The weather looks a bit hit and miss, but fingers crossed we get away with it and can have a good weekend. Everyone’s still working hard, and we’ve gone well around Cadwell in the past – it was a bit of a turning point for us last year after a couple of tougher rounds. The hope is we can continue improving this time and have two solid races.”
Luke Stapleford, “Cadwell’s always a good round on the calendar. I think a lot of riders like it and certainly a lot of the fans like it and it’s always well attended and supported. I’ve won around there in the past but on a superbike it’s a different proposition, given how narrow it is in places. It’ll be an education, but I’m excited to get started and hopefully have a good weekend.”
Richard Cooper, “It was really disappointing to miss out on the podium at Thruxton. It was obviously the first round this year where we’ve not had a top-three finish so it was always going to be a bitter pill to swallow. But it’s only made me hungrier to get back onto the podium this weekend. Our bike is working well and we’re making only small changes circuit-to-circuit, so hopefully it’s the top step that we’re standing on come Sunday.”
